On July 8, 2019, Governor Cooper signed House Teacher Contract Changes into law. This bill includes a provision requiring North Carolina high school students to pass a course on economics and personal finance in order to graduate; specific professional development will also be required of high school educators teaching this curriculum.
As you may recall from a CPA Impact sent in May, the Association wrote and delivered letters to members of the General Assembly urging required financial literacy instruction in North Carolina high schools. The Association was very pleased the legislature moved the supported provision from the state budget bill to House Bill 924 to prioritize its timely passage.
