As we anticipate potentially devastating impact for many of our members from Hurricane Florence, the Association would like to make our members aware of preliminary resources and updates.
The AICPA Benevolent Fund, available for voting members of the AICPA, was created in 1933 to help members who find themselves needing temporary financial aid. As a member, there are funds available to help support you and your family during tough times, especially during natural disasters. Reach out to the AICPA Benevolent Fund if you are in need of financial assistance to help with home repairs and replacements over the coming weeks as a result of Hurricane Florence. Learn more about the AICPA Benevolent Fund by visiting www.aicpa.org/benevolentfund. The Benevolent Fund team can also be reached at 866-527-2228 or [email protected].
Concerning possible extension of the September 17 filing deadline, the AICPA Tax Advocacy Team has reminded us the IRS has been generous in situations past. Their trigger to be able to offer relief, however, is a FEMA declaration of “Individual Assistance,” which provides federal funds to individuals. While FEMA has issued a disaster declaration, it is not at the “Individual Assistance” level, as damages must be assessed and all the actual (not predicted) counties that should receive federal funds need to be determined. We will certainly continue to update you as additional information becomes available.
On a personal note, NCACPA is here for you. We are actively collecting resources and planning ways to help our members in the aftermath of the storm. Our fervent hope is for the safety of you and your loved ones.
