The N.C. Department of Revenue will begin accepting both business and individual income tax returns over the next few weeks.
- The NCDOR anticipates accepting 2022 Corporate Income and Franchise, Partnership Income, and Estates and Trust Income tax returns by Friday, January 27.
- The NCDOR anticipates accepting 2022 Individual Income tax returns by Friday, February 3.
Although the NCDOR will begin accepting individual returns on February 3, the Department anticipates a delay until early March to begin processing returns and issuing refunds.
The NCDOR shared with NCACPA that this delay is necessary as the Department updates and tests its refund fraud validation system, a measure that protects taxpayer identity and ensures that the appropriate refunds get into the hands of the right people. Once the Department begins processing and validating returns, the “Where’s My Refund” application on the NCDOR.gov webpage will go live, allowing taxpayers to check the status of their tax refund.
