Raleigh, NC — The North Carolina Department of Revenue (NCDOR) officially opened the 2018 business income tax filing season and began accepting Corporate Income and Franchise, and Partnership tax returns Monday, Jan. 22. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) began accepting business income returns Jan. 8.
Taxpayers who filed before Jan. 22 will now begin receiving acknowledgements for electronically filed (eFiled) returns.
For calendar year filers, the tax filing deadline this year is Tuesday, April 17.

The increasingly popular eFile method remains the fastest and safest way to file an accurate return and receive a refund. In 2017, the first year of Partnership eFile, nearly 50 percent of Partnership returns were received electronically, and returns received electronically for Corporate increased by nearly 40 percent.
The NCDOR anticipates that 2018 filers will have an even greater array of software products from which to choose. Payment options including scheduling of automatic bank drafts for taxes due, estimates, and extensions are available with eFile.
To help protect taxpayers from identity theft and refund fraud, the IRS, as part of the Security Summit initiative, worked with tax industry groups and state revenue departments including the NCDOR to continue strengthening processing systems. The IRS and Summit partners are continuing to improve these safeguards to protect taxpayers filing in 2018.
