As previously shared with the membership, NCACPA, the AICPA, and several other organizations filed amicus curiae briefs on the CommScope Credit Union v. Butler & Burke, LLP, case.
Today, September 1, the North Carolina Supreme Court heard oral arguments. The Justices were interested in the case and asked many questions. Representatives of amicus filers were in attendance, including Jim Ahler, CEO, and Sharon Bryson, COO, NCACPA; Mike Buddendeck, General Counsel & Secretary, and Andrea Short, Assistant General Counsel, AICPA; Eddie Sams, NCACPA board member and former Chair of Dixon Hughes Goodman, LLP; and Dave Horne, Partner, and Mitch Armbruster, Partner, Smith, Anderson, Blount, Dorsett, Mitchell & Jernigan, LLP.
A decision by the Court is anticipated by the end of the year. As information is received on the ruling, the Association will provide updates via a Member Advantage and web updates. Members interested in reading the previously filed amicus briefs can find copies at this link.
