On July 1, NCACPA was featured in an Associations Now article titled “Organize and Visualize: Turning Member Numbers into Knowledge.” The article, which featured NCACPA Director of Finance and Administration Nikki Vann, CPA, and Debbie King, CEO of analytics firm DSK Solutions, followed NCACPA’s year-long project get member data both centralized and accessible via interactive dashboards created using a tool called Tableau. NCACPA faced a problem nearly every association faces: As essentially a conglomerate of small businesses, a typical association works in so many data systems that, even if it is diligent about collecting useful data in them, it can be excessively difficult to assemble it all into actionable knowledge. Data centralization was necessary, but it was only half the story.
Centralizing this information allows NCACPA to use Tableau to create interactive charts, infographics, and other meaningful representations based on member data like new member engagement, member retention, and membership types to allow the association to better understand, and therefore better serve, the members.
