On Wednesday, NCACPA held a press conference in Raleigh to announce the launch of “Tar Heel Tax Reform,” a new initiative designed to educate North Carolinians about the urgent need for tax reform in our state.
At the press conference, NCACPA Board of Directors member and liaison director to the Taxation Committee Rollin Groseclose, CPA, and I unveiled our new microsite (www.TarHeelTaxReform.com) that’s home to a 3-minute video, a petition, and additional resources, including one-pagers and links to all related legislation. The microsite is intended to be a one-stop-shop for everything you need to know about tax reform in North Carolina, and it will be updated regularly as the debate unfolds in the General Assembly. We hope you’ll find this site useful as you educate your clients, colleagues, and employers about the implications of tax reform.
In our role as “financial translators,” we believe it’s critical to get involved in this issue, and to help educate the business owners and families of North Carolina about what it means for them.
“North Carolina’s tax code has not fundamentally changed since the 1930s—when Roosevelt was president and our state’s economy was focused on manufacturing and agriculture,” said Rollin Groseclose, CPA, shareholder with Johnson Price Sprinkle, PA, in Asheville, NC. “Modernizing our state tax code will provide revenue stability for important services, bolster job growth, and better protect our state from unplanned tax hikes and budget cuts during economic downturns.”
According to current forecasts, North Carolina’s tax code will not produce the revenue stream necessary to sustain our state government beyond the next three to five years. We cannot afford to wait to modernize our tax code.
Learn more and get involved by visiting www.tarheeltaxreform.com. We hope you’ll watch the video and sign the petition as a way of showing your support for tax reform in North Carolina.
